Paralympics Ted O'Brien has been slammed by the state's Health
Minister Yvette D'Ath after suggesting that the Federal Government
could withdraw its half of a AUD5 billion funding agreement for the
Games.
Hospital funding desperately needed
There was one major development and another two important updates regarding hospitals in the West Moreton region this week.
Arguably the most important of these was the announcement of a new 174-bed public hospital section to be added onto the existing Mater Private Hospital at Springfield.
The new public hospital will include an emergency department, intensive care unit and maternity services, with the state government to contribute $177 million to construction. Inspections of the extensions at Ipswich Hospital. Picture: West Moreton Health
With about 100,000 new residents expected to call Springfield and Ripley Valley home over the next five years, and Ipswich Hospital already operating flat out, there is no doubt these facilities will be desperately needed.
It’s time for Queensland’s Health Minister’s to stop blaming our health crisis on COVID-19. This problem has been building for years and we all know it.
The thousands of people who have been vaccinated against Covid-19 should pause and offer a silent prayer of thanks to the Chief Health Officer, the Health Minister and the Premier. Were it not for the selflessness of this trinity in declining to get at the front of the vaccination queue, three among those thousands might have missed out. As the Premier has explained, she and her two colleagues did not have their shots because they I had my shot some days back and you can imagine how I would have felt if I d lined up to be told Sorry, mate. The Premier was in the queue ahead of you so I m afraid there s no jab for you. She took the shot we would have given you.
