The federal government responded this weekend to three letters written by the Ontario government that call for stricter measures on international travellers crossing at land borders and on interprovincial travellers flying into the province. In a letter dated May 7, 2021, Intergovernmental Affairs Minister Dominic LeBlanc tells Ontario Health Minister Christine Elliott and Solicitor General Sylvia Jones that the federal government is willing to work with the province to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and it variants but is waiting for it to produce a list of international travellers it would like Ottawa to ban from entering Ontario.

Province expected to open AstraZeneca to 40+

Multiple media outlets have reported a ministry spokesperson has confirmed the decision. “I can confirm that based on current supply, Ontario will begin offering the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine to individuals aged 40 and over at pharmacy and primary care settings across the province effective Tuesday,” the ministry spokesperson said in a statement, published by CP24. The decision comes just hours after federal Health Minister Patty Hadju said Canadian provinces have the go-ahead to expand the AstraZeneca roll-out.
