Labor’s Patient Navigation Program will improve mental health care
Program will enable better support and outcomes
A Majority Labor Government will fund an enhanced Patient Navigation Program to improve the integration of mental health care and ensure no Tasmanian is left behind in the state’s mental health system.
Labor Leader Rebecca White said the fragmented Tasmanian system under the Liberals leads to poor clinical outcomes and ongoing frustration in the community.
“The mental health system under the Liberals is a maze with insurmountable barriers for many patients, carers and their families,” Ms White said.
“Patients with complex care needs require more and varied healthcare services, along with a high degree of coordinated care, and evidence has shown that these patients and their families have better outcomes if they have access to integrated care.

Public private partnerships will provide dental care to 5,000 aged care residents
Substantial investment needed to improve older Tasmanians’ dignity and quality of life
A Majority Labor Government will provide priority dental care to thousands of Tasmanians living in residential care.
Shadow Health Minister Dr Bastian Seidel said older Tasmanians cannot be forgotten when it comes to dental health.
“Dental care and dental prosthesis care are an essential part of health and wellbeing for older Tasmanians living in residential care,” Dr Seidel said.
“But too often, aged care residents are not able to get the treatments they need, with terrible consequences for their dignity and quality of life.

Labor will invest in health system IT /digital infrastructure upgrades
Labor’s policy will improve access to patient care
A Majority Labor Government will invest in Tasmania’s IT sector to upgrade the state’s woeful digital public health services and improve Tasmanians’ access to healthcare.
Shadow Health Minister Dr Bastian Seidel said the Liberals are running our hospitals on an information system literally held together by paperclips and post-it notes.
“At a time when keeping pace with technological advances is more important than ever, the Liberals have failed to invest in internet, telecommunications and IT,” Dr Seidel said.

1,000 visits available each day throughout Tasmania
Focus on general practice will alleviate pressure on hospitals
A game-changing plan to make 1,000 bulk billed visits a day available at 10 GP Extended Care Clinics throughout Tasmania will take pressure off emergency departments and help end ambulance ramping and bed block.
Labor Leader Rebecca White said the establishment of the 10 GP clinics – offering seven-day-a-week care from 8am to 8pm – will provide 100 per cent bulk billed urgent care visits.
“This will mean people can see a doctor when they need one and it will help take pressure off hospital emergency departments and reduce ambulance ramping,” Ms White said.

Labor’s comprehensive Ambulance Strategy paves the way toward an end to ramping
Labor’s strategy includes 144 new full-time paramedics, 24/7 coverage across Tasmania and two new stations in high growth areas
Out of control ambulance ramping created and allowed to thrive under the Liberal Government will be solved by a Majority Labor Government with 24/7 ambulance coverage across Tasmania.
Labor Leader Rebecca White and Shadow Health Minister Dr Bastian Seidel today unveiled a comprehensive strategy to save lives by employing an additional 144 full-time paramedics to ensure every station has 24/7 coverage.
Labor leader Rebecca White said it was an unacceptable tragedy that Tasmanians have died waiting for an ambulance while Peter Gutwein has done nothing to address the crisis he created.
