Vaccines are, however, also being rolled out in many places. Rich countries have already secured supplies while poorer countries await their turn. Authorities in Pakistan say we will begin vaccinations in the second quarter of 2021. It is not yet known which vaccine out of the eight approved for emergency or full use will be administered in Pakistan. SAMAA - Pakistan crosses 11,000 COVID-19 deaths

Deaths from COVID-19 in Pakistan crossed the 11,000 mark on Tuesday, government statistics confirmed. The country has recorded a total of 523,011 infections since the beginning of the pandemic. Over the past 24 hours, 58 new virus deaths were reported, an increase from 46 on Monday. Between 40 to 60 deaths are being recorded every day since the new year began.  Among the 58 deaths, 52 were under treatment in different hospitals across the country and six in their homes, according to the latest update by the National Command and Operation Centre. Thirty-seven patients died on ventilators. Most of the deaths were reported in Punjab and Sindh. The national fatality rate is 2.1%. .

Key ministers reject medical colleges entrance test held under PMC - Pakistan

INP KARACHI: Amid the growing protests from candidates, three key ministers of Sindh rejected results of the test conducted under the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) for admission to medical colleges of the province. The authority of conducting the entry tests should be given to provincial governments, demanded Health Minister Dr Azra Pechuho, Information Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Education Minister Saeed Ghani while addressing a press conference on Monday at the auditorium of Sindh Assembly. Dr Azra said: “The federal government has put the future of thousands of students of Sindh at stake. This entry test is sheer injustice to the students of Sindh as it was based on the curriculum of the federal educational board.”
