COVID-19 vaccines reach Rotuma and Lakeba Island in Lau

Good news for villagers in Rotuma and Lakeba Island in Lau as they can now access COVID-19 vaccines.
The Health Ministry through the support of Wayne and Deborah Hinton from Advanced Aviation Training and the Sea Mercy team, were able to deliver vaccines to Rotuma yesterday morning.
Medical teams in Lakeba have also started with the vaccination campaign after receiving the vaccines.
Vaccines have also reached the Yasawa and Mamanuca Groups.
During the Bula Ko Lau discussion forum, the Health Minister Doctor Ifereimi Waqainabete had highlighted the Ministry will be using the sea and air to transport the vaccines to maritime areas, so they can also be protected from COVID-19.

Medical Officer for Lakeba in Lau Doctor Raynold Waisele has highlighted that raising awareness on the importance of the COVID-19 vaccine and why people should be vaccinated is a key component in their vaccination campaign in the Lau Group.
Speaking on the Bula Ko Lau discussion forum in the iTaukei language last night, Dr Waisele says they started their awareness and vaccination campaign in Lau last month, but when they went to Moce Island to collect the registration forms only 38 people registered from the island.

Health Minister Doctor Ifereimi Waqainabete says there are sufficient vaccines for every individual above the age of 18 years in the country.
Responding to a question on the Bula Ko Lau discussion forum, Dr Waqainabete says this is possible through the support provided by the COVAX facility and the support from other nations such as India, Australia and New Zealand.
Dr Waqainabete says other countries have shown their support towards the country’s fight against the COVID-19 outbreak and this is good news.
