January 18th, 2021 - The Mexican colonial city ofSan Miguel de Allende had a highly successful holiday season, reporting 100% occupancy of the current 50% of existing hotel rooms available for booking. With more than 200,000 inhabitants, the city has recorded 1,800 total cases of Covid-19, one of the lowest number of cases in the country, with its government officials sticking to a “Health First” stance.
Access to San Miguel de Allende was closed from March to June 2020 to non-residents, sacrificing the local economy for the health and wellness of its residents. On May 25, the city launched its “Health First” certification, which is granted after local health and safety officials evaluate each location and certify compliance with sanitary protocols for reopening.
