Despite surge in the COVID-19 cases, Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma ruled out the possibility of lockdown or curfew and said last year lockdown was required to create infrastructure to tackle COVID-19. Now the state has infrastructure, he said.
Congress said it will probe all the COVID-19 related expenses if voted to power in Assam.
Sarma said that deputy commissioners will not allow Bihu functions in pavilions or other functions in districts with 300 COVID-19 positive cases.
The month-long Bihu function started on April 13.
Stating that there is no need for lockdown and night curfew, Sarma said, “Last time we did lockdown to bring back people from different places and transport necessary equipment for hospitals. This time till now, the situation does not warrant such measures.”
