Announces development of 50 urban forests in Lahore

ISLAMABAD:
Prime Minister Imran Khan on Saturday announced the development of 50 urban forests in Lahore based on the Miyawaki method as part of efforts to restore biodiversity and fight the climate crisis.
“I have launched urban forestry on the lines of Miyawaki technique in Japan where the trees grow 10 times faster and 30 times denser and it is the best way to fight pollution,” the premier said on his Twitter handle.
With the provincial capital being one of the most densely populated cities of Pakistan, the prime minister added, “50 sites have been chosen in Lahore.

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday inaugurated the Miyawaki urban forest at Jilani Park, Lahore.
Upon his arrival in the city earlier today, the premier was briefed on the progress of the development of 51 urban forest sites in the provincial capital, being built to overcome air pollution and protect the environment.
Pioneered by Japanese botanist Akira Miyawaki, it is a unique technique that helps build native forests 10 times faster and 30 times denser.
