talked about it and what it means, that you can t treat kids like adults. that s true. however it puts a time collar on us to process cases as government, and it doesn t work. there s a deal to be made about what we were talking earlier, moving this process outside our border, working cooperatively with mexico, which means it stinks that we don t have a great relationship with them on that level right now. and also to allow families to stay together. that s one piece of a non-comprehensive immigration deal. but you could do that. you could marry that on the health care side with doing something on pre-existing conditions. you could do something on pre-existing conditions. from the republican side the ask from the republican side will be that you got to help us with short policies. you got to let us be able to i love that you re talking like an actual legislator. this makes sense in the i ve spent a lot of time talking to these guys about it. no it makes sense in the era of
president bring more african-americans, people of color, into his inner circle, particularly in the west wing? when kellyanne conway was asked about this, she pointed to ben carson. he is, of course, a cabinet secretary. the criticism is that there aren t african-american voices very close to the president. i ll tell you though, this president values the input from his cabinet secretaries. he s had more cabinet meetings excuse me than i can recall previous presidents. they re very common. he seeks their guidance and input. you do have secretary canson. you have dr. jerome adams on the health care side. you have the head of medicare and medicaid services with verma. you have people of color who are often in the office. he relies on them so much to provide that guidance. of course, you always want to see the white house staff looking like our country. i don t think we should take it just because they re not in those offices right there, that he is not hearing from them.
so, isn t it good that a physician will be atop that administration? we are pleased with his medical background but the health care side of the va is really only one-third of the va. there s claims, appeals. we have an appeals backlog, veterans are waiting seven to ten years for their appeals to be adjudicated. very serious stuff. we don t know that this secretary has that type of experience to be able to oversee that. the va has experienced a leadership vacuum for a while in addition to the carousel at the top of the va, there s no va undersecretary. is there deputy secretary number two? no. that s an appointment point here, someone we also have a lot of confidence in. we being amvets and other organizations, we have a lot of confidence in that deputy but he was leapfrogged and they brought in somebody from the pentagon. to be acting secretary? yes. we re puzzled by that and have put inquiries into the white house and administration to why that would be. what s the answer
what was the strategy? they were going to come in with a newby president that was not a political animal, had no basis of policy or legislative operation, and that they were going to help shape and mold the president s agenda around the ultimate agenda that the republicans had laid out, which of course as you started was repeal and replace of obamacare, tax cuts and maybe some other things. but what has happened along the way? the whole health care effort has blown up in their face in large measure. yes, they cut out some of the mandates in the tax cut bill, but what they ve left intact on the health care side has a big hole in it they have to deal with it. you have all of these other issues as well and the president is taking a completely different agenda, reverend, that i would kind of determine as a page six presidency where it is all about the tantalizing, you know, side shows that detukt from a real policy agenda and that s a big frustration for members on the
