Meeting of ministers underway over COVID-19 situation in Andhra ANI | Updated: May 12, 2021 14:33 IST Amaravati (Andhra Pradesh) [India], May 12 (ANI): A meeting of a group of ministers of the Andhra Pradesh cabinet is currently underway to discuss the ongoing COVID-19 situation in the state. Participants of the meeting include Deputy Chief Minister (Health) Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas, Home Minister Mekathoti Sucharitha, Minister for Urban Development and Municipal Affairs Botcha Satyanarayana, Agriculture Minister Kurasala Kannababu and senior officials of the medical and health departments. Issues pertaining to the rising cases, oxygen supply, hospital beds, and vaccination are being discussed. Andhra Pradesh s health infrastructure, much like that of the rest of the country, has been reeling under the pressure of the rising COVID-19 cases.

Steps taken to ramp up oxygen storage capacity

Monitoring cells will be set up to prevent wastage, disruption: Alla Deputy Chief Minister and Minister of Health Alla Kali Krishna Srinivas has said that steps have been taken to increase the oxygen storage capacity from the existing 517 tonnes to 600 tonnes to ensure its timely supply to the hospitals. Monitoring cells were being set up in all the hospitals to prevent wastage of oxygen and disruptions in its supply, which had caused the death of many COVID-19 patients so far in the State, Mr. Srinivas told the media after a meeting of the Cabinet Sub-Committee on COVID-19 organised at the APIIC headquarters at Mangalagiri on Wednesday.

During a video conference with Collectors of seven most affected districts, the Minister asked them to ensure that bed strength was increased in both hospitals and COVID Care Centres. “Please ensure that the results of RT-PCR tests are released within 24 hours. The functioning of the 104 call centre should be monitored daily. The COVID Care Centres should be set up with support from local communities and ensure that people moved to CCC feel at home,” said the Minister.
