COVID-19 vaccine clinic moving from mall to health department

Relentless winter weather delays vaccine shipments to Knox County

February 18, 2021 The harsh winter conditions have slowed down travel times in the past week or so, and that includes deliveries of COVID-19 vaccine supplies. The Knox County Unified Command says they’ve been notified that winter storms that have engulfed a large part of the U.S. have caused delays in shipping second doses of the vaccine. What this means for local residents is some cancellations in second dose clinics and appointments. Public Health Administrator Michele Gabriel says that once delayed shipments arrive their partners will focus on catching up clinics for the second dose of the Moderna vaccine. Once vaccine supplies arrive Knox County staff will start calling residents to reschedule their appointments.

COVID vaccination rollout continues in Knox County

January 18, 2021 Knox County is moving on to Phase 1B of the COVID-19 vaccine rollout but this phase could take a while. Public Health Administrator Michele Gabriel says as they move on to groups that represent large parts of the local population, she says they’re currently only getting about 1,000 doses a week. Phase 1B includes residents 65 and older and many essential frontline workers. The frontline essential workers designation includes many residents who carry a higher risk of COVID-19 exposure because of their work duties. This is often because they can’t work from home, and/or they must work closely with others without being able to socially distance themselves.
