Rookie C.J. Stroud had another big game Sunday, throwing for 306 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Houston Texans to a 30-6 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Houston’s 24-point win marked its largest margin of victory since a 57-14 win over Tennessee on Oct. 1, 2017. Stroud, the second overall pick in the draft, continued his strong start and he threw a TD pass to get things going in a first half where the Texans built a 16-0 lead.
Houston coach DeMeco Ryans and rookie quarterback C.J. Stroud admire the sustained success that coach Mike Tomlin has had during his tenure in Pittsburgh and hope to one day emulate it. “He’s definitely a guy I look up to, and you see his success and how his players rave about him,” Ryans said.
Rookie C.J. Stroud led Houston’s offense with ease, the defense forced multiple turnovers and special teams made two huge plays against the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sunday. All that added up to one of the best and most complete wins by the Texans (1-2) in years. Houston beat the Jaguars 37-17 for its first win of the season, showing just how good this team can be if it plays the complementary football first-year coach DeMeco Ryans constantly preaches.
Andrew Beck craned his neck after crossing the goal line, checking for penalty flags before celebrating. Beck, a 255-pound fullback from nearby Tampa, became the heaviest player in NFL history to return a kickoff for a touchdown in Houston's 37-17 drubbing of Jacksonville on Sunday. After initially fumbling the kick, Beck picked up the loose ball, broke five tackles and outran several defenders on his way to an 85-yard score, his first touchdown since his rookie year in 2019.
