i am disappointed that comey is not coming forward. he shouldn t have to be subpoenaed. a commitment to the truth, and i can understand why he didn t quit. i think that would have been giving trump an unearned victory. but now that he was fired, i do think the american people have a right to know that. the other point i would make is this. trump is obviously a disaster. he is a mix of impulses and arrogance, and he s just clearly personally unsuited for serious responsibility. but i hope we won t forget that there s a policy side to it too. this presidency has been a disaster not just in his cover-ups and his blustering but in his total inability to carry out the policies he s trying to carry out. and so i hope that as i said, the judgment and i think it is entirely appropriate to say this is the worst presidency in anybody s memory, but it s not simply because of trying to quash an investigation. it is because of the miserable way he governs across the board. that is a point that

but something feels as though perhaps it s shifted in the past 48 hours. hats the feeling in the beltway? that s what republicans are telling me. republicans have gotten used to donald trump and his crises and the fact he weathers crises that would fell a normal conventional politician. in my ininquiring in the past couple of days, what they ve been telling me they fear and they think that possibly this time things might be different. when you take together the comey firing and how it was mishandled, this issue with the meeting with the russians in the oval office and sharing intelligence where he shouldn t have, and now this memo from james comey, they are worried this could present a level of incompetence to the voters on key national security and foreign policy handling and issues that he could start to lose republicans and independents that are outside of his loyal base and then when that starts to happen you start
and i think that, you know, ron rosenstein may well believe everything he wrote in this memo, because a lot of people believe it, that comey misbehaved during the clinton investigation of the emails, that he shouldn t have had that press conference on july 5, that he shouldn t have made that announcement on october 28, that set the election upside down. but then i was listening to someone who was giving me the spin from the white house on this, basically saying that this is the deputy attorney general s recommendation and the attorney general s recommendation and they sent it to the president and by gosh, the president approved it. you have to ask why now? we have joining us on the phone is the democratic congressman adam schiff, the ranking member of the house intelligence committee, congressman schiff, what do you make of the firing of director comey? well, it s incredibly disturbing at any level.
interview. he s a good person. i think he may you know, i think he shouldn t have settled. personally, i don t think he shouldn t have settled. critics wondering if this latest firing goes far enough in addressing what they see as a systemic problem at the network. the day will come when rich persons with rich men will be able to buy their way out of this criminal activity and they will go to jail and they should go to way. will president trump weigh in on this? more urgently, are there other women coming forward, making accusations of sexual harassment. the 20th century board will meet. these issues will be a tough topic. stick around. we re going to need to talk to you about all of this for analysis because coming up we have more on bill o reilly s down fall.
