well, i think overall the problem was the governor. he was extremely unpopular in the state. if you look at multiple polls he is 50 out of 50 in terms of popularity as governors go across all of our states. so when you re the incumbent that unpopular and your approval rating in the 30s, it will be tough to get reelected. he tried to nationalize the race and hug trump. the small thing for him to do in kentucky. trump almost dragged him across the finish line. i think if he hadn t been involved i think bevin would have been in deeper trouble but look, the democrats in the state were eager to vote out matt bevin. bevin barely won a primary as the incumbent this cycle. he was vulnerable. he ended up it looks like losing narrowly. down ticket also in state-wide races it was a clean sweep for the gop picking up two statewide officers they haven t
houses of the legislature and say that s an anti-trump backlash especially in the suburbs in places like richmond, not just northern virginia and say that s a good sign heading into 2020. i think the democrats will also crow about as you just saw there what likely appears to be a victory in the gubernatorial race in that state. top of the ticket governor bevin was the least popular governor in the country. if you look at the rest of the statewide office holders all of which were sweeps for the republicans, they actually picked up the attorney general, the secretary of state offices in the state. they ran well ahead of governor bevin and did pretty well in some of the suburbs of in cincinnati. if we look ahead to 2020 will republicans be able to be competitive in some of their bread and butter areas from elections past particularly suburbia where the current iteration of the republican party under president trump is struggling with a lot of
