Fed up KZN Midlands ratepayers fix their own potholes, calls municipality âuselessâ

DURBAN - THERE were mixed feelings as residents rallied to fill potholes on Curryâs Post Road in the uMngeni Local Municipality earlier this week.
The ratepayersâ deed was shared on a number of social media posts. One of the posts was shared more than 17 000 times on Facebook and had numerous reactions and comments.
Ward councillor Hazel Lake said she had attended a meeting with Curryâs Post residents on Tuesday night.
âThe residents are concerned that even if the road is patched, itâs deteriorating at such a rate⦠so they feel it needs a full resurface and the municipality cannot go for a full resurface, so theyâre very unhappy,â said Lake.

Democratic Alliance Member of the Provincial Legislature, Chris Pappas, has lashed back at the ANC-led uMngeni Municipality over its scathing criticism of a pothole fishing competition residents held to highlight the problem of poor service delivery recently.
The ANC had described the protest as the DA’s “circus-like” activism and alleged that some of the protesters had flouted the Covid-19 adjusted Alert Level 3 regulations by not wearing masks in public an by drinking in public. Members of the public had sat on the Curry’s Post Road about 3km outside Howick with fishing rods to highlight the extent of the pothole damage to roads in the area.
