this time freight train carrying hazardous materials in new jersey. haz-mat crews are there on the scene. the train was backing into a facility around 1:00 a.m. when it hit a large structure near the town of woodbridge. one car flipped over. another is on its side. fire bosses say no leaks have been reported and there is no danger to the public. it could take hours to upright the cars. no injuries were reported. wildlife workers trying again this morning to rescue dozens of pilot whales. they re out there stranded in about three feet of water in florida s everglades national park. at least ten of them have already died. it s unclear how or why they ended up in such shallow water. experts say if one whale is sick or hurt, the rest of them won t leave that one whale behind even if it puts their lives in danger. personal information could be in the hands of a thief right now. hackers stealing more than 2 million passwords for sites like facebook, g mail and twitter. and then pasting t
folks in the northeast who planned to rent a car for the holiday are now learning that agencies report virtually no cars are left. the demand for rental cars goes up around thanksgiving. but the storm that devastated parts of the region also damaged thousands and thousands of cars. demand higher because mass transit is still not back to normal in a lot of places and the few rental cars that are available now reportedly cost, well, this is up to $100 a day. but $100 a at this in manhattan is normal. anyway, weekly rates said to be up from $200 to as much as 350 bucks. haz-mat teams on the case after a fire ripped through a chemical manufacturing plant and that tops our news across america. pennsylvania. happened early this morning. some 20 miles north of philly. planes reportedly shot 30 feet above the building. it took two hours to contain the thing. haz-mat crews are monitoring air quality while investigators work on what caused the fire.
the sunday exploded. railway officials say more than ten cars derailed and some were carrying ethanol. police evacuated a one mile stretch near the disaster. no reports, if you can believe it, of serious injuries. and mike is live in the midwest newsroom. this was a massive explosion. you saw it sent folks running to their lives in the middle of the night. what is the situation now in columbus? you see freight cars burning and you thing of a toxic cloud. what you have burning is 90,000 gallons of ethanol. it produces a great big flame. what it does not produce thank goodness is a toxic cloud. also burning with the ethanol are loads of grain and loads of corn syrup. there was concern that the freight train was hauling a load of styrene which produces a nerve agent in the cloud. but it was moved away from the flames by the haz-mat crews and
