FOX 11 obtains emails from Rancho Palos Verdes city leaders discussing the Tiger Woods crash

RANCHO PALOS VERDES, Calif. - FOX 11 obtained one of the station s public records requests related to the Feb. 2021 Tiger Woods crash. In that request, FOX 11 asked for any internal emails within the city of Rancho Palos Verdes from the time the horrific crash took place and the two days after.
While deputies later revealed that Woods was speeding, the crash also brought up safety concerns on the road the golf superstar crashed the Genesis SUV at. In some of the emails obtained by FOX 11, Rancho Palos Verdes city leaders received requests from reporters and journalists to talk about driving on Hawthorne Boulevard.
Safe streets advocates have for a long time been asking media and police to avoid using the word “accident” to describe crashes.
One important thing in the discourse of traffic crashes: The difference between “accidental” and “unintentional.” Apart from psychopaths, no one wants to hurt anyone else w/ a car. But if you’re speeding, drunk, distracted, etc, a crash is unintentional but it’s not an accident.
Villanueva went to some effort to place blame on the road at the spot where Woods crashed. “This stretch of road is challenging and if you’re not paying attention, you can see what happens,” he told ABC News.
In the wake of the rollover crash that left Tiger Woods with severe leg injuries, county Supervisor Janice Hahn ordered a safety review of the stretch of road in Rancho Palos Verdes.
