The coronavirus pandemic has upended teaching and learning during the past year, but a $48.7 million building plan in Hawthorn Elementary District 73 remains on track.
Approved by voters in the Vernon Hills-based district in November 2018, the comprehensive initiative to build a kindergarten center and expand or renovate seven existing buildings continues.

Kindergarten students attend the Hawthorn School for Young Learners, the District s new kindergarten building, at 637 N. Aspen Drive in Vernon Hills. Another option is to attend kindergarten at the Hawthorn School of Dual Language, 810 N. Aspen Drive in Vernon Hills. The Hawthorn School of Dual Language is a K-5 school. This school provides instruction to students in both Spanish and English. The School of Dual Language has three interrelated goals:
-High Academic Achievement: Students learn the same academic and curricular content as all the other students, with the added benefit of learning a new language.
