Gov. Josh Green on Monday made good on his pledge to help the people of Maui recover from the Aug. 8 wildfires while sticking to his earlier promises to help financially struggling families across the state.
“This is a tremendous milestone for the Hawai‘i Formerly Used Defense Site program, our partners and the community,” said Lt. Col. Ryan Pevey, commander USACE Honolulu District.
Currently zoned as Resort, Bill 87 would’ve rezoned 1.795 acres of land to Industrial Limited, which would’ve allowed Aloha Kia to purchase the property and relocate to 92 Kalaniana‘ole Street, which is across the street from Reed’s Bay Ice Ponds.
The Homestead Community Development Corporation nonprofit received a funding award from the Office of Hawaiian Affairs Kakoʻo Community Grant Program. HCDC is the nonprofit arm of several Homestead Beneficiary Associations, including the Sovereign Council of Hawaiian Homestead Associations.
