Last year’s legislative session shaped up to be a big year for Native Hawaiian issues at the capitol, with more than $1 billion appropriated to Native Hawaiian projects and initiatives. This year, members of the Native Hawaiian Legislative Caucus are focused on making it easier for the recipients of that money to spend it. HPR's Kuʻuwehi Hiraishi reports.
The Native Hawaiian Affairs Caucus in the Hawaiʻi House of Representatives recently announced their legislative package for the 2022 session which includes measures for regenerative tourism, managing native ecosystems, and museum renovations.
Speaker Saiki reports that “the House will advance legislation to increase the hourly minimum wage to $18, increase the food tax credit, and make the Earned Income Tax Credit refundable and permanent.”
