it s impossible to imagine the anguish that the families of the passengers and crew have gone through in the past week and a half. they want answers and they re not getting them. [ sobbing ] it was a very emotional scene in malaysia when distraught loved ones stormed a press conference. many haven t given up hope. here s a girlfriend of one of the american passengers. i don t believe the plane has been crashed. i haven t ever believed the plane has been crashed. it just doesn t make sense to me. and i don t feel like that s the right answer. of all the speculation about what happened with this plane, the thing that worries me the most is probably the least possible one, is this plane landed someplace and these people are still alive. that kind of thing gives hope to people. do you think we have gone overboard? i think the idea of that is so such a long stretch, but somehow, people are watching television and they get the idea maybe that s true.
divide happening in lebanon, iraq. there is deep concern. if you had a residual force, do you believe things would be better in iraq? i think it s hard to say. i think it probably would be if we were allowed to have a residual force. does it hurt you because you spent so much of your life there and know so many people who lost their lives there, your own son lost an arm there. does it disturb you to see where it is right now? well, i just think i haven t given up hope yet. maybe that s reaching a little bit. it is concerning to see the violence at the levels it s been and how it s grown throughout the year. it s really because of political disagreement and mistrust between the parties in iraq. the fact that they simply don t trust themselves. they can t get to agreement. so it s allowing others to exploit this and it s increasing the violence. it really is difficult to watch. general, i know i think it s my ego, i think you came here to visit me. but it isn t. you came here
