Twitter, under Elon Musk, has quietly rolled back its policy on deadnaming and misgendering trans people. Deadnaming is the process of referring to a person by the name they used before they transitioned. This is harmful as it encourages hate against the community and can contribute to mental health conditions, such as depression and suicidality
On Monday, Twitter also announced that it will only put warning labels on some tweets that might violate its rules against hateful conduct. Earlier, the tweets were removed from the platform.
Deadnaming refers to when someone fails to call you by your real name and calls you by your old name. It can be especially painful for transgender or gender nonconforming people. Learn more here.
