Journal Staff The Hasty Pudding Theatricals of Harvard University has announced that Viola Davis will receive its 2021 Woman of the Year Award. Davis, who grew up in Central Falls and graduated from Rhode Island College, has received more Academy Award nominations than any other Black actress. She is the first African-American to win an Academy Award (for Fences ), a Primetime Emmy Award (for How to Get Away with Murder) and a Tony Award (for Fences and King Hedley II ). She and her husband, Julius Tennon, co-founded the production company JuVee Productions, which focuses on giving voice to the voiceless through strong, impactful and culturally relevant narratives.
