rain are still doing a number on long island where officials are warning about serious flooding and storm surge and power outages that could last a week or two. fox weather correspondent steve bender is on the island in shirley, new york. steve? reporter: yes, alicia, this is something that is not letting up through the afternoon, as you can notice the rain and the wind has picked up yet again here on long island. so we re at smith point beach to the east of fire island and the wind is now gusting 30 to 40 miles per hour so we know tropical storm henri made landfall near westerly, new jersey. we re 70 to 80 miles from that and we re feeling the outer bands. it s the counterclockwise rotation allowing the rain to sit over of long island and this hasn t let up. it s been going on since really about 5:00 a.m. this morning. so the ground is fully saturated. the water is now starting to pond on the roads and we re starting to see that urban and
library here in with baton rougd it has been nonstop sin we got since we got here this morning, people coming and going, and it really hasn t let up. you know, this is a big deal for the folks of louisiana. early voter turnout was extremely high. in fact, about 30% higher than the actual primary election last month that caused this runoff in the first place. and it s got a lot of national attention. president trump, as you know, was just in the state of louisiana on thursday, drumming up support for millionaire businessman eddie raspone who is the republican challenger to the democratic incumbent governor here, john bel edwards. it s the third time the president has been to louisiana to stump in as many weeks trying to turn the tide and oust the state s democratic leader. raspone has never held public office before, but he is neck and neck with john bel edwards
we were in the eye of the storm and it was calm. the wind was coming from the west and now coming up from the south. it upon hasn t let up. the waves are getting bigger and we are just high tide at this point. the one of the at the moment will have another high tide to go across new hanover county. 95,000 people or so are without electricity. carolina beach has no electricity right now. no sign of serious issues. the one problem is so many people are calling 911 about downed trees or downed lines. they are calling 911 only if you have a life-threatening
