ISLAMABAD: As the campaign for Senate elections in the country is ending with effect from the midnight today (Monday), the government and the opposition alliance Pakistan Democratic Alliance (PDM) have mounted last ditch efforts to gain maximum support and both are confident about their chances of victory.
Both the sides on Sunday held some announced and secret meetings as part of the election campaign. The government has also devised strategy for the Senate polls and Prime Minister Imran Khan has also come into the field to support the PTI candidates. He will hold meetings with lawmakers of the ruling party at the Parliament today (Monday) to make sure that no one deviates from the party line while voting. The sources said the premier is expected to listen to the grievances of the party lawmakers and make assurance about resolving their problems.

Commenting on Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shahâs statement that âhe is not answerable to the prime minister, Sindh Assembly opposition leader Haleem Adil Sheikh said on Wednesday the chief minister âis answerable to six crore people of Sindh because it is democracy and this is not a fiefdom or kingdomâ of the Pakistan Peoples Partyâs supremo.
After taking charge of the opposition leader in the provincial assembly, PTI central vice-president Sheikh addressed a press conference, where he criticised the PPP for its âbad governance and corruptionâ during its rule in the province over the past 13 years.

Alarmed at the disconcerting situation of health in Sindh, provincial lawmakers called on Wednesday for being taken on board during the launch of health programmes, especially in districts where their constituencies lie.
During a consultative dialogue, titled To Engage in Reprioritising Nutrition and organised by the Health And Nutrition Development Society (HANDS), data on health conditions such as stunting and wasting was shared with 35 MPAs of Sindh, of whom 15 had joined the session via video link.
The lawmakers were told that 45.5 per cent of children under the age of five in Sindh were stunted, 23.3 per cent of suffered wasting and 41.3 per cent were underweight.
