Drawers outside Highfield Hall care home to help tackle loneliness and isolation

A set of drawers has been placed outside a care home in a bid to tackle loneliness. The colourful drawers, which are outside Highfield Hall care home in Haslingden, were donated to the care home when they were fixed up, and are now being used for people to drop in notes, letters and keep sakes for the residents. The set of drawers were decorated by Sam Smith, a Co-op member pioneer and pupils from St James CE Primary School and Haslingden Primary School - with days being put on the drawers. Sam said: I got the idea from a colleague in Derbyshire to decorate a set of drawers that could be put outside the care home for the community to leave cards, notes, pictures, gifts to help tackle isolation and loneliness.

School shortlisted for Breakfast Club award

A SCHOOL has been chosen as a finalist for the North West as part of the annual Kellogg’s Breakfast Club Awards. If it wins, the breakfast club at Haslingden Primary School will receive a £1,000 cash prize, plus a special party pack to help them celebrate. Around 30 children attend the breakfast club at Haslingden Primary every morning before school. During the first lockdown, the breakfast club stayed open for keyworker and vulnerable families and provided food parcels to the homes of families who needed support. Since September, the school now runs two breakfast clubs to ensure children are prepared for a day of learning, whilst adhering to government guidelines.
