The Rock Reveals Who Coined The Name WWE SmackDown
WWE legend The Rock has revealed that Harvey Wippleman (real name Bruno Lauer) coined the name “SmackDown” and is responsible for the term making it to Webster’s dictionary.
Rock credited Wippleman while responding to a tweet from the WWE on FOX Twitter account, which posted a vintage SmackDown logo and asked fans: “Who is the first @WWE Superstar you think of when you see this logo?”
In his response, The Rock wrote:
Well clearly the dude who coined the name Smackdown in the first place and eventually, made it so famous it’s now in the Webster’s dictionary…and his name is Downtown Bruno

Alabama at WrestleMania: From Paul Bearer to Bray Wyatt, the state’s biggest moments
Updated 11:29 AM;
Alabama has its share of WrestleMania moments, with legends either born here or having passed through at some point, before they etched their names in WWE lore.
Icons like Paul Bearer and “Sensational” Sherri helped make the annual “Showcase of the Immortals” what it is today, the greatest annual pro wrestling spectacle in the world, with modern performers like Bray Wyatt and The Usos writing their own chapters.
WrestleMania 38 will take place as a two-night event on this Friday and Saturday at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Fla. Following the merger of the WWE Network with Peacock, the pay-per-view will be the first major WWE event for which U.S. subscribers can only stream the event via Peacock’s WWE Network channel.
The Godfather On If He Received Heat For Missing His Cue At WrestleMania VIII
Charles Wright is best known as The Godfather in WWE but he’s had a plethora of gimmicks throughout his career. He’s been known as The Goodfather, Kama, Kama Mustafa and his first extended WWE run came as Papa Shango in the early 90s.
Papa Shango was a unique, ghoulish character that was a voodoo practitioner. Wright talked about that early gimmick when he joined the Scheduled for Two Falls podcast.
“I wish, looking back, I wish I was not so green in the business because I could probably have been better at being Papa Shango like Kamala was at being Kamala,” said Wright. “I probably could have been a better Papa Shango but dude, I had no idea what I was stepping into. Going from a country tobacco chewing, country music listening, old truck driving, biker to a voodoo man. It was a stretch!”
