The iconic church has been hit four times by lightning since 2017.

It is the church of presidents and rock stars and sports heroes, but for several months last year its chimes were silenced by a higher authority mustered in the very heavens above its lofty bell tower.
Lightning, either a direct strike or glancing slash, fried the electrical system that operates the bells at the iconic Episcopal Church of Bethesda-by-the-Sea.
And it wasn’t the first time.
Since 2017, the church has suffered damage from four lightning strikes, including blowing several electronic relay systems to the church’s renowned 6,000-pipe organ.
