NDC Nominates Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin As Speaker, Haruna Iddrisu As Majority Leader

  The Functional Executive of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has after a functional Executive Committee Meeting Nominated the Member of Parliament for Nadowli, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin as Speaker for the 8th Parliament. In a statement signed by the General Secretary of the party, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia, he explained there shall however be a revision of the leadership of the party in parliament in order to reflect the exigencies of the 8th parliament and demands of current dynamics in the country. EC apologises for inability to receive NDC MPs petition during march LISTEN DEC 24, 2020 The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Jean Mensa has rendered an apology to the Minority in Parliament for the Commission’s inability to receive their petition. In a letter addressed to the Minority leader, Haruna Idrissu, Jean Mensah noted that the Commission could not receive the petition on 21 December 2020 when a delegation of National Democratic Congress (NDC) Members of Parliament (MPs) marched to the EC Headquarters to present a petition to the election management body with regard to their concerns about the results of the Techiman South parliamentary race.

  The Minority in Parliament has promised to boycott the Electoral Commission’s (EC) next appearance before the house. This comes after they were prevented by police officers on Tuesday when they embarked on a march to present a petition to the EC boss, Jean Mensa. Clad in red and black clothing, the opposition MPs walked in a group towards the headquarters of the Commission, at Ridge in Accra. Minority Leader, Haruna Idrissu who read the content of the petition noted that since their petition was ignored by the EC, they will also refuse her audience when she appears before Parliament.

The Minority in Parliament is demanding the immediate dismissal of the Inspector General of Police (IGP), James Oppong Boanuh, for not failing to ensure the safety of Ghanaians during the 2020 presidential and parliamentary elections. A total of 61 electoral and post-electoral incidents were recorded across the country, the National Election Security Taskforce (NESTF) has said in a statement. According to Member of Parliament for Builsa North, James Agalga, the IGP failed to protect the lives of innocent Ghanaian citizens leading to the tragic death of some of these persons. The Ghana police confirmed the demise of 5 civilians across the nation between December 7, 2020, and December 9, 2020. The five deaths were recorded in Odododiodio in the Greater Region, Techiman South Constituency in the Bono East Region, and Savelugu Constituency in the Northern Region.
