And investigators in other communities in Stark and surrounding counties have reported a rash of similar thefts made with counterfeit cash. According to a Hartville police report, officers were called Wednesday to the Giant Eagle at 907 W. Maple Street for a man passing counterfeit $20 bills.

Canton man accused of spending counterfeit bills in multiple counties

HARTVILLE – Police say a man used fake money from movie productions to buy candy, pizza and other items at businesses throughout town. And investigators in other communities in Stark and surrounding counties have reported a rash of similar thefts made with counterfeit cash. According to a Hartville police report, officers were called Wednesday to the Giant Eagle at 907 W. Maple Street for a man passing counterfeit $20 bills. An employee told officers the suspect, later identified as Daniel Armstead II,  entered the store twice within five minutes, purchasing a beverage and paying the cashier $20 each time. The second time, the man asked the cashier to break a third $20, and the cashier noticed the money had the word copy blacked out with marker, according to the report.
