Dec 11, Colombo: Four police teams including a special team from the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) have commenced an extensive investigation into the sudden death of a Dutch national Netherlanthaye Jinawansa Thero who had fallen into the Rathgama lagoon.
The monk’s body with his feet tied with a weight was discovered on Tuesday (08) night, in the Rathgama Lagoon, police said.
Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa has instructed the IGP and the Director of the CID to immediately begin a comprehensive investigation into his death.
The post mortem was conducted by Dr. Janaki Varshavitharana, a specialist forensic pathologist at the Karapitiya Teaching Hospital yesterday (10), on the suspicion of murder. An open verdict was given and the body parts were referred to the Government Analyst for further examination.
