Postponed from last year, there were times over the past 12 months when it looked like the Olympics wouldn’t happen this year either. But with stringent rules and precise planning, the Games have got the go-ahead and on 23 July at noon, the opening ceremony will take place in the newly-built National Stadium in Tokyo, Japan.
Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, no fans will be allowed at the events, but the postponement is good news for at least one athlete on the track, Nadia Power. The 23-year-old Dubliner believes she’d have struggled to qualify for her 800m event last year but this year she reached the cut-off point with time and points to spare.
