was his activism widely known at a time that america was falling in love with his on-screen persona or deliberate about playing that down? it s really a fascinating story. for harry belafonte, he was consistently an activist. he was in civil rights circles. sidney poitier was an actor first, who was an activist in the sense he appeared at fund-raisers, he put his name on the line for civil rights. whenever interviewed he was asked by civil rights and support of the civil rights movement. the story harry bellefonte tells about freedom summer, exceptionally dangerous time to be a black activist in mississippi, the height of white violence against civil rights activists, the idea was that if these two celebrities, harry bellefonte and sidney poitier delivered this money to these young activists trying to register voters in mississippi, they would be at least a little bit susceptible to that violence. for both of them they tell the story of this incredibly harrowing journey and the
1953 he testified that we have a congress with a senate that has a minor tu of senators who will use the filibuster to keep the majority of people from voting, they don t want the majority of people to vote because they know they do not represent the majority of the american people. that was said 59 years ago, and what s important here is that this is not just another issue to agree or disagree on. people fundamental right to vote is being obstructed. dr. king, john lewis, harry bellefonte, snick, all those individuals, so many of our elders fought for the right to voc. i think what our sister angela rye said earlier, people are tired of the talk and they want action. i think people are rightfully very wary of the attempts by democrats to get political points by speaking up about this, but if it wasn t for organizations like black voters matter, woke vote, vote latino, that are proud partners of the gathering, i think these politicians would just continue like it s business as usual.

“Oh, it’s like anything else. It takes a gimmick. Some girls are beautiful and that’s their gimmick. But you’ve got to have, you know, something to set you apart. I’ll tell you one thing: I don’t think a girl should take everything off. After you’ve seen it all, what mystery’s left? Why come back?”
We Need To Have A National Conversation About Offensive Muppets
After too many years of silence on the matter, Disney has taken the courageous step of adding an advisory to “The Muppets” to warn viewers that we are about to see “harmful” and racist content. It’s about time we have a national conversation about these offensive muppets who, in their ignorance, have perpetuated harmful stereotypes through their puppet privilege.
“This program includes negative depictions and/or mistreatment of people or cultures. These stereotypes were wrong then and are wrong now,” reads the Disney Plus disclaimer finally. “Rather than remove this content, we want to acknowledge its harmful impact, learn from it and spark conversation to create a more inclusive future together. Disney is committed to creating stories with inspirational and aspirational themes that reflect the rich diversity of the human experience around the globe.”
