Harrow and Brent high streets to receive improvement funding

Wealdstone is one of the areas set to benefit (Photo: Google Maps) Several high streets in north-west London will benefit from funding under schemes aimed at revitalising town centres. Almost £7.5 million will be spent in Wealdstone, Harrow, to build a bridge between the new Harrow View East housing development and the town centre. Part of this funding, secured under the Government’s Future High Streets Fund, will also be used for wider public realm improvements, as well as a continued push towards ‘smart city infrastructure’ in the area. Harrow Council explained Wealdstone remains a priority area in the borough, including in terms of boosting housing and employment.

Harrow Council approves latest Kodak site housing development

Harrow Council’s planning committee on Wednesday (April 14) granted permission for 474 homes in blocks up to 14 storeys high at Harrow View East on the site of the former Kodak factory. It is the latest section of a major project, which seeks to provide thousands of new homes alongside commercial and community facilities. The three Conservative members of the committee – Cllr Marilyn Ashton (Stanmore Park), Cllr Anjana Patel (Belmont), and Cllr Christopher Baxter (Headstone North) – opposed this aspect of the scheme on the basis it could lead to overdevelopment.

Harrow Council’s planning committee will assess the latest part of the ongoing housing project in Harrow View East, at the site of the former Kodak building, which seeks to provide almost 500 homes in blocks up to 14 storeys high. Covering two plots of land outlined in the wider masterplan, the application also proposes space for a new retail store, areas for community use, and two “podium gardens”.
