A PARACHUTIST sustained suspected spinal injuries after crashing into the side of a Lake District fell. Multiple emergency crews were called out to the incident at Harrison Stickle, in the Central Fells region, on Sunday. The male casualty had been parascending, an activity that sees a parachutist become airborne after being towed into the air by a vehicle. Langdale/Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team (LAMRT) attended the incident at around 3.30pm. An LAMRT spokesman said: He was treated by team members, air ambulance paramedics and the Coastguard helicopter paramedic and evacuated to Newcastle.
A MOUNTAIN rescue team responded to a number of call outs over the weekend as Cumbrians enjoyed the Bank Holiday sunshine. Langdale Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team said they received seven call outs over Bank Holiday weekend, ranging from a woman who collapsed at How Head, to a parascender who crashed on the slopes of Harrison Stickle. A spokesman said: Big thanks to Kendal Mountain Rescue Team for taking on our fourth call out of the day on Sunday for an injured dog at Three Tarns, especially as the first call out on Monday was at a bleary eyed 5.45am. We’re also grateful to our colleagues at the Great North Air Ambulance and the coastguard helicopter crew who helped us evacuate some of our casualties over the weekend. We would encourage anyone visiting the Lakes to remember places can get very busy on nice days so please park responsibly and respect our communities.

A RESCUE team was called after a pair of inadequately-equipped adventurers became stuck on a Lake District fell in wintry conditions. The duo had attempted to climb the snow-covered face of Harrison Stickle, in the Central Fells region, on Saturday. However, after getting stuck, they called for help. Langdale/Ambleside Mountain Rescue Team (LAMRT) was notified of the incident at around 3.45pm. An LAMRT spokesman said, despite being inadequately equipped , the pair eventually contacted rescuers to say they had made it to safe ground on their own steam. Rescue team members were consequently stood down. The incident required 18 LAMRT team members for around 1.5 hours.
