In 2019, Harrison Mayor Jerry Jackson was approached by local citizens Mike Nabors and Ken Reeves. Reeves was on the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) at the time and was familiar with their efforts to help communities remove low water bridges and weirs for both public safety and habitat preservation. In the 1990s, weirs like the one at Lake Harrison had exacerbated flooding problems in various towns during high water events. Nabors, Reeves and Sean Sanders the AGFC Stream Team lead, encouraged the City of Harrison to consider removing the weir and restoring Crooked Creek to its natural state as a spring-fed, free-flowing stream.
