On Wednesday, Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will be sworn in as the 46th president and vice president of the United States. The first female (and black, and South Asian-American) vice president is certainly cause for celebration. But the historic day doesn’t just mark the start of a new presidency, it’s also a time for culinary change as well (something tells us there s going to be a lot less fast food, for one).

Boris Johnson, the prime minister of Britain, one of the United States closest allies, congratulated Biden and Harris on Twitter.

And for many people, she’ll be the first vice president who looks like them. When Riya Amin was growing up, she said she was the only Indian girl in her elementary school. Her parents emigrated from India and moved to Cleveland before she was born.  It was hard to understand at that age why she didn’t look like other girls, or why she was the only vegetarian. At the time, she said there wasn’t as much cultural understanding.  “It was pretty difficult for me growing up,” said Amin, 26, who now lives in Northfield. “It’s made me a little stronger now.”

In honor of the inauguration on Wednesday, Herpich is selling Inauguration Breakfast Boxes that includes several local East Bay food items with ties to Harris.
