On Wednesday last week, the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) held a news conference at the Taipei World Financial Center to celebrate two milestones: The 30th anniversary of collaboration between the financial institution and Taiwan’s government, and the first anniversary of the inauguration of the CABEI office in Taiwan.
The event was attended by CABEI executive president Dante Mossi, Honduran Ambassador Harold Burgos, Guatemalan Ambassador Willy Gomez and Belizean Ambassador Candice Pitts. It is essential to mention that all of the ambassadors are from countries allied to Taiwan that are also members of the bank.

Taipei, Aug. 7 (CNA) The new Honduran ambassador to Taiwan has reaffirmed that the Central American country will maintain diplomatic ties with Taipei instead of switching to Beijing.
Honduran Ambassador to Taiwan Harold Burgos on Thursay said the Central American country will maintain diplomatic ties with Taipei.
Burgos, who assumed his post last month, made the remark during an interview.
Burgos is the first ambassador appointed to Taiwan by Honduran President Xiomara Castro, who assumed office as the country’s first female leader in January. Statements she made during her campaign had raised concerns that she might end Honduras’ 81-year-long diplomatic ties with Taiwan and switch recognition to Beijing.
However, after meeting with Vice President William Lai (賴清德) at her inauguration in January, Castro said she hopes to maintain the relationship.
