One of the first messages I received on New Year 2021 was from a friend, Dr William Worodria, a senior consultant at Mulago hospital. He texted to inform me that, “Retired ambassador Paul Orono Etiang has passed on at IHK of Covid-19.”
I was shocked by the sad news and remembered my last encounter with Etiang on December 14, 2020, at Rubaga Cathedral where we had gone to attend a requiem mass for our colleague and good friend, William George Naggaga (RIP).
Paul Etiang was my boss, mentor and friend for many years. He was a distinguished career diplomat, gentleman, statesman, patriot, pan-Africanist and a devout Christian.

Summary
In October, President Museveni named his ruling NRM party former director of finance and administration, Mr Hassan Galiwango, as the High Commissioner, replacing Ms Phoebe Otaala, who resigned on July 6 to contest in the party primaries as Tororo District Woman MP.

For two months now, Uganda’s High Commission in Kenya has been in turmoil over who is in charge.
Kenya, according to ministry of Trade, is Uganda’s top trading partner in Africa, and third in the rest of the world, hence of utmost importance, also by virtue of being our main gateway to the sea.
Tribute to William George Naggaga – (1946-2020)
Sunday December 20 2020
Ambassador William George Naggaga breathed his last on December 5 at a Nairobi hospital. I was shocked and devastated when I learnt of my dear and good friend’s passing on from Ms Mary Naggaga. He was laid to rest on December 15 at Bwotansimbi, Buloba, Wakiso District.
Naggaga was a distinguished career diplomat, a gentleman, a patriot, a scholar, a pan-Africanist and a global citizen.
I would like to convey heartfelt condolences to Ms Naggaga and the bereaved family on behalf of friends and colleagues of William. I thank God for William’s exemplary life, his family, friendship and witness as a devoted Christian. William Naggaga and Daudi Taliwaku (RIP) were my closest friends in Uganda’s diplomatic service.

To mark the 200th anniversary of the birth of Florence Nightingale, the World Health Organisation (WHO) designated 2020 as ‘International Year of the Nurse and Midwife’ to pay a well-deserved tribute to one of the most important professions which has sadly lost its glory.
Despite the critical role they play in Uganda, nurses and midwives are treated badly by the corrupt and decadent regime which has been imposed on Ugandans by deceit and force for almost 35 years.
This opinion is dedicated to nurses and midwives of Uganda, past and present, who have served and continue to serve Ugandans diligently and professionally for little pay and under difficult circumstances and whose services are not appreciated by the government of Uganda.
