SCAD has been a blessing for Savannah
I was born in Savannah, raised in Forsyth Park, which had become decayed, making us afraid to walk there. SCAD has created an annual sidewalk art exhibit in the park that draws thousands to see students artwork.
I also went to 37th Street school which rotted with time, with the doors and windows hanging off. SCAD restored it beautifully. Tears came to my eyes upon entering my old synagogue where I went to Sunday School, got married and saw my son’s Bar Mitzvah. Beautifully restored.
SCAD’s first building was the Guards Armory. I took dancing lessons from Ebba Olson Thomson. It was a wreck; now it s a jewel. Richard Arnold Junior High, where I took sewing and shop, is now Arnold Hall and is in perfect condition.
