Even as the investigation revealed gross negligence by the contractor operating the boat service in Harni Lake that led to the death of 14 people, the government model school in Halol took the liberty of packing students in an open pickup truck to take them to Godhra. The district education officer will be conducting a probe into the matter.
Investigations into the Harni boat tragedy have revealed that the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) was kept in the dark about the sub-contracts done by Kotia Projects that was given the contract to operate the entertainment zone and boating facility at the lake. The accused, who are partners in Kotia Projects, didn't inform the civic body officially about these sub-contracts. It was all unauthorized as the company management had no right to give such sub-contracts without informing the VMC. The accused including Nilesh Jain of Dolphin Entertainment and Alpesh Bhatt of Tristar Enterprise are not revealing much about the contracts and their revenue sharing to the investigating officials. Bhatt has also been questioned about his expertise in running the boating facility as investigations revealed that no safety measurements were in place at the Harni Lake and even the staff hired to operate the boats neither had any license nor training.
