Back in 1941, America was about to be drawn into the Second World War by the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor. It meant that soon all of the nation’s vehicle production capabilities would be focused on the war effort, and that left little room for civilian versions of cars and bikes. 8 photos
Those with an eye for such things have quickly got hold of the motorcycles and cars whose value was more than certain to skyrocket after the war ended, and for the great part took good care of them. Other such machines made the trip through time in a forgotten state, but made it nonetheless.

When it comes to bikes, finding one that sells for six digits is very tricky business. When it comes to new ones, perhaps only Combat Motors is brave enough to ask $150k for its creations. Other than that, you can find bikes for all tastes and uses for far less than that.
When talking about the exploits of that European Harley-Davidson custom shop by the name Thunderbike, we’re usually treated with reinterpreted modern motorcycles. Occasionally, we also get full custom builds, based on their own frames, and somewhat rarer, conversions of earlier Harleys.

That year was a particularly important one for the conflagration, with several major military developments, including Operation Overlord, or the Normandy invasion, taking place. The WLA, as the two-wheeler Milwaukee developed for the Army was called, swarmed in large numbers over the world’s battlefields: some 90,000 of them were made in a very short time.
