EDEN, Vt. (AP) A second relative has been accused of helping a Vermont man with a long criminal history who surrendered to police after being on the run for five days.
Diana Rogers, 59, of Eden, was cited Friday on suspicion of accessory after the fact on allegations she assisted her nephew, Harley Breer, while there was an active warrant for his arrest.
Breer, 51, of Marshfield, was taken into custody on Wednesday and is being held without bail. He s accused of assault on April 9. Breer, whose criminal history includes convictions for kidnapping and aggravated domestic assault, was on furlough and under the supervision of the Vermont Department of Corrections.
A Vermont man wanted for an alleged assault surrendered to authorities Wednesday after a days-long search, a spokesperson with Vermont State Police has confirmed.Police said 51-year-old Harley Breer, who carries a long criminal record within the state, attacked a neighbor in Marshfield on Friday evening before leaving the area. State police said Breer surrendered peacefully to a uniformed trooper on Vermont Route 232 near the town just before 3:30 p.m. He was taken into custody without incident, according to police. His disappearance had prompted investigators to launch a widespread search effort after the incident was reported, which included the use of K-9s and unmanned aircrafts. Police said the intensity of the search was warranted, in large part, by Breer s past. He is considered to be a violent criminal by members of state police and has been placed on lifetime probation. Among the most serious of his charges a 2000 conviction for the kidnapping of his estranged girl
