Larkipora, Kashmir: This Christmas, the Indian Army turned Santa for children of Kashmir as sepoy Gurvinder Singh of 19 Rashtriya Rifles set out on a new mission on Friday - Mission Smile.
His olive-green uniform and assault rifle were replaced with the red costume of Santa and a goodie bag. The Fauji Santa spread Christmas cheer among kids of the valley as he distributes goodies, toffees and chocolates. Singh also gave children some tips on their future and career.
The Rashtriya Rifles encampment at Larkipora, 65 kilometres from Srinagar, was abuzz as the thumping of soldiers boots was replaced by giggles of children. The commanding officer had invited children from neighbouring areas of Wessu, Pethdialgam, Brenty, Kokernag, Vailu and Gadol to connect with locals.
