Bournemouth commuters set for greener travel options

New cycle and pedestrian paths proposed THE installation of upgraded cycle and foot paths through Kings Park is set to get underway, thanks to a government grant. Starting in late July, the work will be funded through cash from the government’s Transforming Cities Fund (TCF) and will form part of an 8km ‘sustainable travel route’ between Bournemouth railway station and Jumpers Common in Christchurch. Councillor Mike Greene, transport portfolio holder for BCP Council, said: “Kings Park is an important location connecting Christchurch and Bournemouth.  These planned improvements will really open up sustainable travel as a viable, attractive, healthy and safe way to commute between these areas.  

Food on the Loose is a big runaway success

OPENING a business as the world stood on the brink of the Coronavirus pandemic must have been extremely bad timing if not catastrophic for many new enterprises. But Food on the Loose - the family-run plastic free shop, which launched in Pokesdown in November 2019 has enjoyed huge success and is now the Bournemouth Echo Trader of the Week. The business, situated on the junction of Christchurch Road and Harewood Avenue, has proven hugely popular whilst also getting residents to think about limiting their environmental impact by changing their shopping and eating habits. Food on the Loose is owned by Jane Simkins who runs it with her two daughters Jennie Simkins and Maxime Noble.

Woman is hit in the head and kicked in Bournemouth assault

After the assault it was reported that the victim was followed by the attacker. Detectives have launched an investigation following reports of the assault at the junction of Droxford Road and Christchurch Road on Sunday evening. Dorset Police said between 7.30pm and 8pm a man approached a woman, aged in her 20s and from Bournemouth, and made threats to hurt her. The man reportedly hit the woman to the head causing her to fall to the floor, before kicking her multiple times. It is also reported that the man damaged the victim’s mobile phone. The victim sustained bruising to her forehead and eye, as well as injuries to her hand and leg.
