Cllr Haqeeq Dar
SLOUGH’S deputy mayor has been suspended from Labour while he is under investigation. The Observer (LDRS) understands the Wexham Lea councillor and deputy mayor of Slough, Haqeeq Dar, has been suspended by central Labour, pending investigation into complaints. It is believed the local authority figure was suspended from the party earlier this month, although it is not clear of the exact date and reasons why. When put to the Labour Party, a spokesman said: The Labour Party takes all complaints extremely seriously and they are fully investigated in line with our rules and procedures, and any appropriate disciplinary action is taken.
for ‘a long time’. At Wednesday’s (January 13) planning meeting, the chairman, councillor Haqeeq Dar (Labour: Wexham Lea) said councillor Roger Davis (Labour: Cippenham Green) has been suffering from Covid-19 and is still in hospital. As Cllr Davis has missed three planning meetings in a row, members agreed to waive a letter informing the group leader of his absence given his circumstances. The lead member for planning and regulations, councillor Pavitar K. Mann (Labour: Britwell and Northborough), said: “I would second that as well considering we’ve known that Cllr Davis has been suffering with this for a long time.”
New planting to cheer people up
New trees in two of Slough s busiest roads are aimed at cheering up depressed residents forced to stay at home during the pandemic. The trees have been planted in Wexham Road and on the central reservation of Broadmark Road, Slough, after two Wexham Lea councillors decided to use some of their allocated Community Investment Fund to do it. In Wexham Road 73 trees have been planted. They include catalpa, gingko, magnolia and paulownia to provide year round colour and have been chosen for their ability to extract pollution from the environment to improve air quality.
