VICE-President Chiwenga has described national hero, Cde Douglas Nyikayaramba, who was Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Mozambique as a “gallant son of the soil” who contributed immensely to the liberation of the country.
Ambassador Nyikayaramba succumbed to Covid-19 complications last week at St Anne’s Hospital in Harare while on annual vacation.
In his message of condolence, Vice- President Chiwenga said the nation should draw solace from the diplomat’s immense contribution to the country’s independence in 1980.

“As we mourn his departure, we shall draw solace from the late gallant son of the soil, Lieutenant-General (Retired) Douglas Nyikayaramba’s distinguished career and selfless dedication in various capacities to the service of the people of the Republic of Zimbabwe.
Mnangagwa and Chiwenga
AFTER his initial daring purges of military commanders who propelled him to power through a military coup in November 2017, President Emmerson Mnangagwa is now capitalising on political contingency and opportunities triggered by the death of four ministers due to Covid-19 to consolidate power and ensure he survives the Zanu PF elective congress next year, insiders say.

The sources said Mnangagwa is moving to tighten his dead man’s grip on power by phasing out the military in cabinet, while bringing in close political allies.
Mnangagwa is also seeking to seal his position as the party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, although he had initially agreed to a deal with his co-deputy Constantino Chiwenga to serve one term after being thrust into power by the army.
ZIMBABWE’s state security service, the Central Intelligence Organisation (CIO), is investigating a volatile commercial dispute that has erupted between the government and interim trustees of Caps Pharmaceutical Trust involving a US$45 million deal, The NewsHawks has established.
This comes as the High Court earlier this month ruled that government should seek arbitration with Caps Pharmaceutical Trust to ascertain the shareholding structure that emerged and movement of money involved when the state bought into the pharmaceutical giant.
Government in 2015 acquired a majority 68% shareholding in Caps Holdings Ltd and all its subsidiaries. The deal, which was bankrolled through Treasury Bills (TBs), was approved by cabinet on 19 November 2015.
