Karnataka saw a 69.56% voter turnout in the first phase of Lok Sabha polls, with Mandya recording the highest at 81.67%. The election was mostly peaceful, except for an incident in Chamarajanagar where EVMs were destroyed during a clash. Repolling will be held in Hanur on April 29. The Congress and BJP-JD(S) combine had a straight fight in this phase, unlike the triangular contest in last year s Assembly elections. The second phase for the remaining 14 constituencies is scheduled for May 7.
The re-polling at booth number 146 was ordered after two groups of people clashed over boycotting the elections, damaging EVMs. One of the groups wanted to vote while the other was opposed to it.
