Hansa Research to cease services to BARC and MDL

Hansa Research got embroiled in controversy after the TRP scam broke. 06 Apr, 2021 - 12:45 PM IST     |     By indiantelevision.com Team     MUMBAI: Hansa Research, the third party agency which measures television rating points (TRP) for Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) and Meterology Data Pvt Ltd (MDL), has decided to withdraw its services from 30 July 2021. According to sources, Hansa and MDL have mutually agreed upon service disengagement and that MDL is well equipped in data collection and will continue to provide services without any interruption. We haven t heard from you for over four months though there was a sense of urgency to get our response to the RFP by 17 November, with a deadline to finalise the new vendors/contractors by 1 December 2020. We assume you have finalised the new set of vendors for managing your panel homes and that we can now be relieved of our duties, Hansa Research CEO Praveen Nijhara wrote in a letter addressed to MDL.

Goswami’s counsel Mundergi also drew attention of the high court bench of Justices S S Shinde and Manish Pitale to the fact that the now suspended API Sachin Waze was in-charge of the probe. He alleged the first informant, Hansa Research group, was aware of the rigging since June 2020 and had been given the information by Waze and another officer.

File photo of Partho Dasgupta NEW DELHI: Bombay high court on Tuesday granted bail to Partho Dasgupta, former Chief Executive Officer of Broadcast Audience Research Council (BARC) in the alleged television ratings point (TRP) manipulation scam. Special public prosecutor Shishir Hirey had objected to the bail saying Dasgupta was the “mastermind’’ in the crime. Justice PD Naik while granting bail observed that 15 accused were arrested and 14 have been granted bail including Romil Ramgadia Chief Operating officer of BARC, who the prosecution alleged had played a “vital role in manipulation of TRP”. Dasgupta “cannot be incarcerated in custody till the arrest of another accused,’’ said Justice Naik.
