The County Council is considering legislation making it easier for affordable housing developers to pursue certain projects by amending a county tax-waiver program.
County Council members Hans Riemer and Andrew Friedson, co-sponsors of the bill, said in interviews Wednesday that the proposal is meant to provide certainty to developers by putting them on more stable financial footing.
The bill amends the county’s payment in lieu of property taxes (PILOT) program. It would exempt the amount of property taxes levied on certain projects, depending on how much is income-restricted housing and the area median income levels for residents living in those units.
